herbal medicineEvery herbal study program is unique and different in its own way, but generally speaking they all teach students the art of treating the mind and the body with the help of medicinal herbs, and throughout the course of the study program, students get a deeper insight into the many different herbs and their health properties. While some students choose to enroll in herbal schools alone, others choose to take their knowledge in alternative medicine a mile further and specialize in an additional field such as acupuncture, but regardless of your choice, all training programs teach students how to identify the right course of treatment that is required for addressing a certain condition or ailment.

Most of these schools offer Master’s Degree programs, and the prerequisites are relatively simple and straightforward, as you will need to have a Bachelor’s Degree provided by an accredited institution, along with a personal letter of interest that clearly shows your interest in that particular discipline – once you are admitted, you will be studying herbalism for the next two to three years.

The coursework is very complex as well, and it often happens that herbal schools offer students different internship options as well, thus allowing them to personally create different herbal medicines through practical, hands-on experience. In spite of the fact that the curriculum may vary slightly from one herbal school to another, most of the schools teach students the history and the basics of oriental herbal medicine, the legal and ethical issues that may apply in herbal medicine, herbal phytochemistry and pharmacology, different herbal treatment methods and preparation techniques and such.
